Map3

Map 3.

Distribution of mechanized peat cutting for fuel in 1990–1991, lowland and blanket peat, and Environmentally Sensitive Areas.

W. Tomlinson, Changes in the extent of peat extraction in Northern Ireland 1990–2008 and associated changes in carbon loss, Applied Geography 30 (2010) 294–301

The article printed in Applied Geography 30 (2010) 294–301 included several maps related to the 2007–2008 survey about a peat extraction for fuel and estimates caused mainly by a marked fall in extraction for fuel. The most interesting map is shown above and it can be seen that “agri-environment schemes covered around 40% of the agricultural area of Northern Ireland”, W. Tomlinson.
